Frequently asked questions
Does the recipient need an account?
No. They open the link in any browser, type the password and download, on a computer or a phone.
How long must the password be?
At least 6 characters. A generated one, three groups of four letters and digits, is far harder to guess than a word.
Can I generate a password?
Yes: Generate writes one like k7qm-2xtp-9vra, in lowercase letters and digits, without look-alike characters. You can copy it right away.
How do I give the password to the recipient?
Separately from the link: if the link goes by e-mail, give the password by text message or over the phone. Never both in the same place.
What does the recipient see before typing it?
Only a password field. The transfer’s name, your message and the file names stay hidden until the right password is given.
What if someone tries to guess it?
Wrong attempts are counted and limited: the link cannot be tried over and over.
Can I also delete the files once downloaded?
Yes, the two go together. Once every file has been downloaded, the link answers like an expired one and the files are deleted shortly after. Such a link offers no preview.
Is the password free?
Yes, like deletion once downloaded: no account, up to 5 GB per transfer, a link that lives up to 3 days.
